Last week we brought another SheaMoisture product into our life and I have been itching to share it with you (thankfully not literally!) because it seemed AH-mazing! But of course I had to do my research first. Ya know - can't have you using a product just because it smells good without knowing all the deets on it first!

First, if you've never heard of SheaMoisture before let me just give you a glimpse into their inspiring story. A dear grandmother began the company by selling shea nuts way back in the early 1900's in Sierra Leone - a place that will always hold a special place in my heart because of how they triumph through their endless struggles. They proudly make their products out of botanically-derived ingredients like vegetable butters, plant extracts, and organic shea butter.

On their website they claim to stand for:

Being...

Inclusively Exclusive

The best in personal care and beauty should not belong to the few. Our accessibility comes compromise-free.

Sharing...

Modern Wisdom

Recipes handed down from a healer make for potent 21st century cures.

Creating...

Sensory Solutions

Potent salves stimulate, soothe, surprise and speak to all the senses.

Maintaining...

Cultures Cultivated

The best ingredients gathered from around the world and picked to complement perfectly.

At first glance I was like WOWZERS!! Amazing. But a company stating what they stand for and actually carrying out their values are not mutually exclusive, right? So I dug deeper. SheaMoisture promises to offer safe products without compromising beauty. Safe is a very subjective word though. So let me break it down. According to their packaging they leave out harmful chemicals like Parabens, Phthalates, Mineral Oil, DEA, Petroleum, Formaldehyde, and Propelyne, which are 7 of the dirty dozen chemicals found in many personal care products.

There are a lot of consumers worried that the fragrance in SheaMoisture products is made from synthetic sources because previously their label said "No Synthetic Fragrances" and it doesn't anymore. Let me just say that their products smell delish! So it's no surprise that people would question the source of their fragrances. SheaMoisture cleared that up, however, by saying they had to declutter their label because apparently it was too busy, BUT their Essential Oil Blend fragrances are made up of natural essential oils. The remaining harmful ingredients on their "No List" are ingredients they get the most questions on and that they feel consumers care about most.

What's more - their products also do not contain any synthetic colors and sulfates, according to one of their Sundial Brands agents.

Sooooo - the exact new product that we bought and have been using is the SheaMoisture 100% Virgin Coconut Oil Baby Wash & Shampoo w/ Sweet Pea & Murumuru. First, I understood all the ingredients on the label. That's rare. Not only does it have a gorgeous scent, but it is actually SAFE. It is super conditioning because of the coconut oil. I really had no idea what Murumuru butter was! I found out that it is derived from seeds in nutritious edible fruit from the murumuru palm tree native to Amazon Rainforest vegetation in Brazil. Murumuru butter is rich in fatty acids and helps soften and moisturize skin. It is also naturally glossy and full of vitamins giving it a protective quality.

The wash/shampoo lathered up well and felt nice as I scrubbed my kids up. I have a 3 year old and a five year old and both their hair felt super soft after I washed it and after it dried. My daughter's hair was not difficult to brush either, and I did not use an additional conditioner. That being said, it wasn't like brushing through silk either so I do plan on purchasing the SheaMoisture Coconut and Hibiscus Kids Extra Moisturizing Detangler to use along with it. No surprise there though because when can you ever really just use a shampoo and be fully satisfied without a conditioner?!

It is really hard to find a chemical free product that you feel comfortable using on your babies but that also smells nice. SheaMoisture exceeds my expectations in all the products I've used, including this one!

I love their story, their commitment to truly natural ingredients, and the fact that their fragrance comes from natural essential oils. And I can't wait to see what you think too!! Share your faves!
